How long does it take?

One of the projects that I really wanted to complete this winter was turing Ian's bedroom into a 'big boy room.' We talked about several themes and decided to use a fishing themed quilt and bedskirt my mom had made. Dad found the quilt, I found scrap material and made valances, Brad bought the paint, I ordered a stencil and we were set when the snow storm hit in February. I took down all the baby items, boxed them up and we got started! After the snow was cleared, Glen and Cindy went to a craft show and found a lot of really cool things for the walls. We were finished except for a lightswitch cover and a clock.

Over the past couple of years I have become an anti-shopper. I don't know if it is because I enjoyed shopping with my mom so much, or because when I shop I typically have two boys in tow, or with all our activities I just feel like it is a waste of time. For whatever reason if I can avoid going in a store, I will. For example, for the past two years my Christmas shopping is done mostly at Amazon.com and the rest I do in the wee hours of Black Friday.

So, one night Brad was watching something on TV and I decided to find the last two items to complete Ian's room. I quickly found a lightswitch cover at Amazon.com. The clock was a little tricky as most of them were either really expensive or not appropriate. I finally found one on ebay. New in box. Several available. And, most importantly, those two words I always look for: FREE SHIPPING. I showed it to Brad and he thought it was great (or at least he grunted approval) and I placed the order. That was the evening of March 9th. Just like everyone else, we got busy and forgot about the clock. Every so often when I would read to Ian at night I would look at the old clock and think about checking on the status of the new clock. Two days ago I said something to Brad while he was on the computer so he checked the status. He started laughing soon after he logged on because it turns out the cute fishing clock was on its way....from Hong Kong. Sure enough it arrived today. Packaged perfectly and shipped from Hong Kong. So if you were wondering how long it takes to get something from Hong Kong, the answer is 14 days. Now if we could just find one AA battery!

  1. Cool room Ian!

That's funny we just had a similar experience with a battery for our camcorder. The only difference is the battery was defective so I now know it costs $9.00 to airmail a tiny battery back to Hong Kong!
