It is so hard for me to believe that Ian is turning four! Four years ago I came home from work, got dinner and then my water broke. Labor was an all night affair and at 4am, Ian joined our family; two and half weeks before his due date on a frigid January morning. Brad and I knew that we wanted to have more than one child and we had a very small window of opportunity to have another baby when I went off of my cancer medication. We were thrilled when we found out he was on his way! I knew he was the completion of our family and, when he arrived a healthy 8 pounder, I was thrilled.
Although he is pretty strong willed, Ian adds a sense of humor to our family. He has filled our lives with Ian 'isms' and there is something about humor that he just 'gets.' For example, he recently sampled Egg Nogg for the first time and, after taking a sip he looked at us and said, "you have got to be kidding me, this stuff is terrible." Just the other day he answered the phone and I heard him tell my dad, "I'm working. Doing laundry and cleaning my room. Mom's just relaxing." The other day when I tried to sneak a pair of jeans in with the white load of laundry he told me (with hands on hips), "you can't put them in with the whites or the clothes will have spots."
I feel like I have watched him grow up before my eyes in the past couple of months and I am starting to realize that he is no longer a little baby, rather a little boy learning and growing with each passing day. Four is one of my favorite ages and I am so thankful to be celebrating this birthday with him! Happy Birthday Ian!
